Working at Home can be such a desired position, especially as a parent. Typically you’re offered more flexibility and less micromanagement. However some start to notice that over time there can be a negative change when just starting to work from home. Even some of our team at Work at Home Workforce have been caught in the work at home rut. We have done the research for you and have done some testing on ways to help. Learn some quick, pretty easy tips to help yourself get back on track with both mentality and productivity kept in mind!

One of the major key components to really enjoying your time working from home is having a work and life schedule + sticking to it! Regardless of how often your schedule can change, daily, weekly, seasonally, etc. have a designated working time for each

schedule and then the rest is your lifetime. Make sure that when you’re working, you are working and not deciding to try and squeeze extra laundry in. One thing is certain in my house, there will always be dirty laundry no matter how many loads I would try to cram into a day. I quickly learned it’s not worth the hassle of trying to do something that will always be there. Same thing goes for when it’s not work time, do your best to stay work free. Not only will it help you do house tasks and other errands a little easier, but you will also have a much clearer head and not be thinking of all the work things that you have planned to complete later. I didn’t even mention all the benefits of being able to live in the moment with your loved ones, something that’s hard when your brain is in multiple places at a time.

When you begin your work for the day/shift (because yes sometimes splitting up work is what works best in your season of life) have a designated workplace and have any drinks or snacks already prepared, or ordered lol. First thing you should do is figure out what you’re working on and get in the mindset for it while pulling up all your browsers and applications you may need. Some people find it helpful to turn off or edit notifications, especially social media, spam emails & not frequently used apps. When you aren’t getting notifications, you’re getting less distracted resulting in more productivity while working.

The most tricky part of working at home (in my opinion of course) is kiddos and pets but having a solid work schedule can really help enforce your work time to others around you. I would recommend a schedule built around the beginning of your work time for your little kids or fur babies. This will help them feel comfortable knowing what’s going to happen. Work time is a great time for snacks, treats, naps, etc. anything that helps keep your responsibilities happy and occupied while you focus on work.

If you struggle with getting into the mindset of work here are a few things to try; physically get dressed & ready as if you were going into your office. Create a routine to have before work, get a drink and have a quick snack right before to help you stay focused. My most productive time to work is after my workout and lunch, I am so in the zone and able to be creating. It also helps that this is during nap time! Another thing to try to get into the mindset of work is to actually use your login time as your commute, some call it telecommuting or remote commuting! When you are pulling up all those browsers & applications take this time to put life things aside and truly focus on your work.
